29 August 2016 - Keeling family make cricketing history

Old Eastbournians Jasper Keeling (Pennell 2008–13) and Zak Keeling (Pennell 2010–15) have helped make cricketing history by being part of a team made up entirely of the members of one family.

The team, consisting of four fathers and seven sons all with the name Keeling, played against Sedlescombe Cricket Club on Monday 29 August. The bank holiday fixture is the legacy of the late Sir John Keeling, who first put together a family team in the early part of the last century.

The annual match resumed in 1965, since when the family have been keen to put out a side with just one surname on the team sheet.

Jasper and Zak's father Paul, who captained the side, said that he believed it was a world record, although he hadn't yet checked through the whole of Wisden.

And the result? The Keelings bowled out Sedlescombe for 147 in 33 overs, matching the total in their innings in just 25 overs.

10 August 2016 - One month to go to the Old Eastbournian reunion

There is just one month to go before the Old Eastbournian 2016 reunion, which is being held on Saturday 10 September.

This year's reunion is for all OEs who left the College in any year up to and including 1968 and we have already had a big response from those who are planning to come.

If you have not yet let us know that you would like to attend please do so as soon as possible. The day culminates in an evening dinner in the Dining Hall, but we need to know the numbers coming so that we can inform the College caterers in good time.

There is more information about the whole day, including booking contact details, on the OE reunion listing on our events page. Here you will also find a list of those who are planning to come and, if you would to catch up with old friends from your schooldays, please let us know with whom you would like to sit at the dinner, so that we can make sure that we place you at the same table.

The good news is that the whole day is free of charge. We look forward to seeing you on 10 September.

9 August 2016 - Jim McCue (School 1977–81) remembers TS Eliot inspiration at College

Jim McCue (School 1977–81) has contacted the College with memories of the effect of reading the poems of TS Eliot while a pupil.

He says: 'As co-editor of The Poems of T S Eliot, which was chosen as Book of the Year by the Times Literary Supplement and won the Pegasus Award of the Poetry Foundation in Chicago, I was amused to find an old College worksheet, which tells me that I first opened the Selected Poems to read The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock on 23 April 1980.

I remember clearly where I was sitting in Philip Le Brocq's set in Room 8, and I remember the immediate impact the poems had on me.'

The Poems of T S Eliot is published by Faber & Faber.
