12 December 2016 - Christmas services at the College

Please note that that the service of family communion for Christmas Day, previously announced in the White Book, will not be taking place this year.

There are two carol services with the Chapel Choir this week and you are welcome to attend these instead. They are both being held in All Saints' Church.

On Thursday 15 December at 6pm there will be a service open to all. Eastbournian Society members and parents of pupils in Years 9, 10, 11 and the Lower Sixth are invited to attend. This will be followed by a reception in the Senior Social Common Room for ES members.

The main school carol service will take place on Friday 16 December at 2.15pm. This is for all pupils and parents of both choristers and those in the Upper Sixth.

7 December 2016 – 'This House' at the Garrick Theatre

The latest theatre trip for Eastbournian Society members was to the Garrick Theatre to see This House by James Graham.

The play, set in the whips' offices in the House of Commons, portrayed the sometimes farcical methods by which both sides of the House attempted to keep their MPs under control and through the voting lobbies during the Labour administration of 1974-79.

We were pleased to see that one of the cast was Old Eastbournian Giles Taylor (Gonville 1981-86), who played the Speaker.

John Thornley managed to catch up with Giles after the show and passed on our appreciation of an excellent production.

Pictured here are some of the ES members who managed to get to London despite the RMT strike on Southern Trains this week. A long-running industrial dispute causing misery to the travelling public certainly put them in the mood for a play set in the strife-ridden 1970s.

1 December 2016 - Property networking event

A career and business networking event focusing on the world of property was held in London on Thursday 1 December.

A number of College pupils made the journey up from London to join Old Eastbournians, parents and others who were able to share their knowledge and expertise of the property sector.

The event was held at the offices of Aecom in Aldgate, and we are grateful to Tim Mote (School 1983-88) for hosting the evening.

Tim spoke about some of the most interesting projects that Aecom is currently undertaking. The company is an American-owned multinational engineering firm that provides design, consulting, construction and management services to a wide range of clients globally and is number 156 on the 2016 Fortune 500 list.

Further pictures of the evening are also available to those who are registered and logged in to the website. Details of how to do this are on our Members Area page.
