The Complete and Utter Truth behind the Origins of Banoffi Pie
The story of how Banoffi Pie, born in a small restaurant in Sussex, became famous.
Ian Dowding says: ‘It’s not as if we’d discovered the double helix or cold fusion, but it has been a phenomenon that a simple pudding has become world famous.’
‘I don’t talk about it much these days in case I sound like one of those old rock stars who ever had only one hit and insists on telling everybody at every opportunity. But if I’m asked, I usually say, and which I happen to believe is true, that nobody ever invents dishes; they evolve. This the real story of how it happened.’
After long hours, hard graft, highs and lows of 50 years in the restaurant business, and tv work on historical food programmes (Regency House Party, Turn Back Time), Ian is now able to look back.
Guests should please gather by 3.45pm in Reception on Old Wish Road to sign in (please bring some identification). We will meet you all and accompany you to the Long Room where Ian will talk for about 45 minutes followed by some time for questions. Copies of his book will be available for purchase.
All this as well as tea and a slice of banoffi pie just for £10. What more can you ask for?
