6.30pm Drinks Reception in the Long Room with an exhibition of cricket related photos and display of Wisdens kindly donated by Mike Barford (Reeves 1963-68), Ed Atkinson (Pennell 1979-84) and Rupert Bairamian (School 1975-80).
7.30pm Dinner in the Function Room for friends of Guy and supporters of cricket at Eastbourne College.
Guy Richards (Craig 1980-85) was tragically killed in a traffic accident in the USA shortly after leaving school. In 1986 a plaque was put up in Guy’s memory by his friends on the pavilion building. When the new cricket pavilion was being built the plaque was removed for safekeeping. Prompted by Guy’s friends getting in touch we thought the annual MCC match would be an appropriate occasion to reinstate the plaque.
We will also be marking the installation of two flag poles kindly donated by The Arnold Embellishers which will be flying team flags during all our future fixtures.
Guest Speakers: Nick Wilton, Eastbourne College's newly appointed cricket professional, and Matilda Callaghan, Director of Cricket.
Nick played for Sussex County Cricket Club as a wicket keeper and batsman before moving into a 15-year career with the 160-year-old cricket company Gray Nicolls where he worked with international cricketers. Nick is currently also a coach at Kent County Cricket Club and works as a consultant for West Indies Cricket. He brings a wealth of experience coaching different age groups.
As a player for Essex County Cricket Club’s Women’s team and having previously played for England U16s, Matilda has an impressive cricket CV. In 2021 she became the first woman to play in the Surrey Men’s Premier League while her performances for Essex Women last summer meant she was awarded their 2022 Player of the Year.
Please RSVP if you intend to watch the cricket and have match tea to kjrichardson@eastbourne-college.co.uk or 01323 451911 and if you would like to join us for the drinks reception and dinner please book a ticket.
