By popular demand, we have organised another London walk. Our bespoke walk costs £14 per head and is led by Charlie Forman, the expert guide who took us round Battersea Park last September.

We will meet at Green Park Tube station at 10.30am (so those travelling from Eastbourne can catch the 8.33am). (An early start but Charlie already has another walk booked for the afternoon.)

There’s a whiff of scandal about how, in 1705, the Grosvenor family finally secured the estate which still makes up much of Mayfair today when a woman of sound mind was declared insane. This walk explores the Grosvenors tactics as developers and the neighbourhood laid out under their oversight. A bastion of aristocratic living throughout its three centuries of prominence, we will see Mayfair’s elegant streets and hear the echoes of a lifestyle enjoyed by the landowning families who kept a fashionable house for the ‘London season'. Their public spaces, their places of worship and even some of the shops they patronised are still on view. And...  just what kind of fair used to happen in May to give the neighbourhood its name?

We will have some suggestions for lunch afterwards nearer the time.
