Annual Dinner
An Extraordinary Evening at the House of Commons
You are cordially invited to the Eastbournian Society's Annual Dinner for Old Eastbournians and the wider ES community.
This year we honour Forbes Wastie, a beloved and influential figure in the life of Eastbourne College.
The annual dinner 2025 will be held in the magnificent surroundings of the House of Commons, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dine in one of the most iconic and historically significant venues in the UK. This is a rare chance to experience the grandeur of Westminster in the company of fellow alumni, parents and friends.
Special Guest Speaker: John Ryley OBE
We are privileged to welcome Old Eastbournian John Ryley, former Head of Sky News and one of the most respected figures in British journalism, as our guest speaker. A proud alumnus of Blackwater House under Forbes Wastie, John will reflect on his remarkable career and the profound influence Eastbourne College had in nurturing his talent.
John Ryley’s career spans nearly four decades at the forefront of broadcast journalism. He led Sky News for 17 years, overseeing coverage of some of the most defining global events of our time, from 9/11 and the Arab Spring to the COVID-19 pandemic and the death of Queen Elizabeth II. He was instrumental in securing the UK’s first televised leaders’ debates and championed the introduction of cameras into courtrooms to promote transparency in justice.
Described by the Royal Television Society as “innovative, idiosyncratic, and a leader of colossal integrity and influence,” John has received numerous accolades, including the RTS Outstanding Contribution to Journalism Award and was appointed OBE in 2024 for services to journalism.
