This year's walk is The Power of the Thames. Our bespoke walk costs £14 per head and is led by an expert guide from the London Walks Company.

It will take us from Battersea to Westminster.

We will meet our guide at 11.00am just outside the exit of Battersea Power Station Tube Station. The tour will end at about 1.20pm in the Victoria Gardens next to the Palace of Westminster.

Stand in the middle of one of the world’s largest brick buildings and feel the energy it once delivered to power a fifth of London. Marvel at the transformation within and the new riverside without. Then take this walk downstream along the Thames enjoying the ebb and flow of its history, going back more than three thousand years to the river’s very first crossing point, and forward to the overnight arrival of Vauxhall’s high-rise city, with a space-age American embassy tucked in behind it.

Follow the tide out further to the point where the Horseferry once crossed, and beyond that to another seat of riverside power: the Palace of Westminster. Two powers, electrical and political, needed the same thing to succeed: the river.

Join this celebration of what such a small stretch of the Thames has brought to London.

One is at Colosseo, an Italian restaurant, 79 Victoria Street SW1H 0HW, about 10 / 15 minutes from where we finish the walk I have provisionally booked for twenty. Please let us know (jt@eastbourne-college.co.uk) if you want me to include you (deadline 15 September).

If you prefer a lightish snack, then there is Wesley’s Café in Central Hall, Westminster, just opposite Westminster Abbey. They open until 4.00pm (their hot counter is open only until 2.00pm). There’s no need to let me know if you intend going here.
