There was something rather special about seeing current pupils from St Andrew’s Prep and Eastbourne College and their parents, mingling with Old Androvians and Old Eastbournians in the warmth of a Dubai evening.
Hosted by Headmaster Tom Lawson and his wife Jess, the gathering of some 40 guests at The Monty, welcomed members of the Eastbournian community from near and far, including guests who had recently flown in from Amsterdam and Oman. Parents of current pupils chatted with Old Eastbournians who had left the College some sixty years ago. Different generations, different journeys, but a shared connection that was palpable throughout the evening.
Addressing the gathering, the Headmaster reflected on something that makes Eastbourne College pupils rather special: their willingness to try new things, embrace opportunities and make the most of everything life throws their way. Looking around, there was plenty of evidence that this spirit stays with Eastbournians long after they leave school. The breadth of careers represented included a professional pianist, entrepreneurs, lawyers, teachers, businessmen and women and a DJ. Different professions and generations representing a plethora of career paths, united by a common connection to Eastbourne.
