On Friday 13th March 2026, the Bath and County Club on Queens Parade opened its doors to a wonderfully mixed group of Eastbournian Society members for an evening full of warmth, stories, and shared connection. Thoughtfully organised by Jonathan Seymour (Wargrave 1976–81) and Michael Schroeter (Wargrave 1977–81), this was a relaxed and convivial get‑together.
One of the loveliest features of the evening was the breadth of generations represented. Guests ranged from lively 19‑year‑olds to an impressively youthful 91‑year‑old, each with their own Eastbourne experiences to share. Decades may have separated them, but conversation and laughter flowed easily as everyone found familiar threads woven through their time at the College, St Andrew’s Prep and Ascham.
The spirit of Ex Oriente Salus – “From the East comes good health” – felt especially fitting. There was a sense of Eastbourne’s good health, optimism, and community spirit spreading westward into Bath, carried by the people who hold the place close to their hearts.
Drinks, nibbles, and the elegant setting of the Bath and County Club provided the perfect backdrop for reminiscing, reconnecting, and forming new friendships; this is the relaxed and inclusive atmosphere that defines the Eastbournian Society.
It was a delightful evening, full of good humour and good company, and another reminder of how strong the Eastbournian community remains wherever its members happen to be. If you’d like to host a similar gathering wherever you are, please do let us know: es@eastbourne-college.co.uk
