In recent years, The Eastbournian Society insurance industry networking event has been one of the most popular in our series.

The 2023 network took place at Howden Insurance, One Creechurch Place, on Tuesday 21 November and was open to Old Eastbournians, parents, current sixth form pupils and anyone else associated with Eastbourne College or St Andrew's Prep Eastbourne who wanted to gain an insight into the insurance world.

We are enormously grateful to Duncan Willcocks (Powell 1990-95), Stuart Willcocks (Powell 1993-98) and David Lyle (Wargrave 1995-97) for hosting this event, and to our other speakers David Turton, Senior Casualty Underwriter at Liberty Specialty Markets; Mike Roberts, Managing Director, Construction & Engineering; Charles Taylor, Loss Adjusting; and finally Alexander Bellotti, Account handler, Howden Construction & Infrastructure Assets Division, who shared the experiences of an apprentice in the insurance world.

The 50-strong audience were regaled with tales of the unexpected from the insurance world, amazed by the stunning surroundings of the art-filled office space and there was a tangible buzz of excitement as OEs reconnected, friendships were re-kindled, and, for the dozen sixth form who attended it was a feast of information and networking opportunities.

They all took advantage of being with people who were hugely experienced in the world of insurance, so much so that the College’s Director of Futures Sarah Gordon, who had accompanied the College group, delayed their departure so that they could continue to mingle.
