David Howell (Powell 2003-08; St Andrew's 1998-2003) is co-presenting a new TV chess competition, Chess Masters: The Endgame. The show starts on Monday 10 March at 8.00pm on BBC2, and will also be available on IPlayer.
David is a UK Grandmaster and three-time British champion, and will be providing expert commentary alongside host Sue Perkins. He said he was excited about the series because it would bring chess to a wider audience, commenting: 'Chess has been my life, and I can't wait to share this world with the British public. Hopefully we'll be able to break some stereotypes along the way and show that chess is fun, exciting, and - most importantly - a game for everyone!'
The competition pits 12 of Britain’s rising stars of the chess world against one another, showing the psychology and gamesmanship behind the moves, as well as the strategy.
