A very pleasant evening was spent in the idiosyncratic ‘5 by Sans Facon’ located at the Oval in Singapore. Our OE Rep Raphael Gui had chosen the ‘countryside’ venue, located where the British Airforce once had their base. This French restaurant, set in a traditional black and white bungalow was homely and unassuming against the golden sky of a Singapore sunset and the al fresco ambience perfectly matched the informal gathering hosted by headmaster Tom Lawson and development director Emma Garrett. Sanjay Kirpalani (Wargrave 1980-1983, St Andrew’s 1977-80, Ascham 1974-77) even brought along his blue book – treasured for 40 years, a reminder of his days at Eastbourne.

As the croque monsieur and escargots were passed around, so memories were shared and plans made for future gatherings in the region.
Emma Garrett said “Covid had obviously put a bit of a stop to tours to the Far East by the likes of my predecessor David Stewart and David Winn who many of you will have met on his global travels. He was an extremely generous and loyal Old Eastbournian who used to love his visits overseas. I am delighted to be picking up the mantle and am thrilled to have reconnected with so many members of the Eastbournian Society community in Singapore today”
Please do get in touch if you work/live and or travel to Singapore on a regular basis and would like to join our regional group.
