This December, Joshua Curryer (Reeves 2014-16), along with his college friends Matthew Rust (Reeves 2014-16), Freddie Henderson (Reeves 2011-16), and Gearoid O'Callaghan (Reeves 2014-16), will embark on the thrilling India Rickshaw Run starting on Boxing Day. With no set route, no backup, and plenty of uncertainty ahead, they are ready to embrace the adventure. They are bound to get lost, stuck, and possibly topple over, but that’s all part of the journey.
As they take on this exhilarating challenge, Josh aims to raise £1 for charity for every kilometre they survive. Many who know him are aware that his upbringing had its challenges, and the two charities he has chosen to support played a crucial role in lifting him up. These organisations provided opportunities and a wonderful education when his path could have taken a very different turn.
The charities Josh is supporting focus on helping children from underprivileged backgrounds receive quality pastoral support, personal growth, and exceptional education.
The Emmott Foundation was instrumental in Josh’s life, providing a grant at the age of 16 after he was fostered, allowing him to attend the top-performing school in Eastbourne, his hometown. They offer grants to students facing sudden financial crises, ensuring they can continue their education during difficult times.
The Blue Sky Bursaries Appeal aims to fund up to 40 fully-funded bursary places by 2028, helping local children access a transformational education. With the support of the alumni community, this initiative seeks to create an endowment fund that provides opportunities to those who would otherwise miss out on a top-tier education - an opportunity that changed Josh’s life forever.
We invite everyone to join them on this journey, whether by cheering them on, following their progress, or contributing to these vital causes.
