Eastbournian Society in Geneva, Switzerland

On Saturday 8 June, Eastbournians were treated to a genial evening at La Potinière bar in Geneva, Switzerland.

The soirée was hosted by College Second Master Cris Symes and Vicky Burford, the College's international ooordinator, and drew together parents of past and current pupils, Old Androvians and Old Eastbournians.

Cris welcomed the group, presented the objectives and values of sponsorships and bursaries, and this first opportunity to create a community of Eastbournians in Switzerland.

Over drinks by the lake, Richard Lewis (Reeves 1965-1969) recalled being at Ascham and then at the College in Reeves House when it was originally sited in what is now Craig House. Richard shared fond memories of teachers at Ascham, and subsequently at St Andrew's, including Rivers Curry, Brian Jefford and Brian Luard each of whom were special characters who will have inspired others.

The ambience was very relaxed and entertaining, with past and current connections being established quickly, and with attendees realising they have probably been passing each other in the street in Geneva, or across the border in France during a frugal shopping trip.

Julie Williams (former St Andrew's staff) and Macarena Fatio (current parent) had met frequently before, and were delighted to meet again in a new context. Iain MacLean (Wargrave 1990-1995) made the long trip all of five hundred metres across Geneva to the venue, and the memories of Sefton Perry (School House 1986-1991) of his time and associates at St Andrew's were rekindled.

It was a fine evening, bringing together an ensemble of proud Eastbournians who will meet again. Thank you Cris and Vicky.
