King's Cross to Camden Lock

It was a glorious day for a stroll along Regent's Canal with expert guide Jane Scott. Some 20 ES members met at a busy King's Cross Station, and we spent a little while hearing some of the fascinating history of the area before moving onto the canal towpath. Avoiding what seemed like the rest of the population of London, so lovely was the weather, Jane led us along skilfully, with occasional stops to point out what most of us would otherwise have missed, Though not a long walk, it was packed with facts about the architecture, the various buildings, new and old, canals, railways, and the social history of what is a vibrant part of the capital. We took our leave of our guide after two hours and a dozen of us went to lunch at a local eaterie where we stayed for a couple of hours in spite of the very loud music; perhaps many of us are used to a quieter life... A walk back to catch the tube from Camden Underground Station revealed a closed station due to the sheer volume of tourists visiting the area so we were directed to Mornington Crescent Underground Station which some thought was an invention of the BBC Radio 4 programme I'm sorry I haven't a clue. Proof, if proof were needed, that we need to get out even more. Getting out more is what many of the group are going to do, having signed up for the guided walk around the Inns of Court on 8 November for which we currently have more than thirty.
