After Evensong in St John's College Chapel sung by the College Choir who were on splendid form led by Johnian and College Director of Music Dan Jordan, a true mix of the ES family met for drinks and dinner in Conville and Caius College. Current parents and friends of the College enjoyed an evening of reminiscing and meeting other ES members. ES Chairman Ian Henley (Gonville 1970-75) and College governor Vicky Henley (Nugent 75-77) were able to join us, along with other OEs, some of whom are Cambridge based. Cambridge undergraduate and linguist Sandra Fuhrmann (School 2019-21) met up with Queens' College postdoctoral scientist Dr Hamish Symington (Craig 1993-98) and Selwyn College Fellow Dr David Smith (Powell 1977-81). And it was a delight to have join us Gonville and Caius Senior Tutor and Fellow Dr Andrew Spencer (Pennell 1993-98) with whose help we were able to enjoy the fine surroundings of the Fellows Dining Room.
Before their rehearsal, the choir had the opportunity of meeting up with Natasha Symes (Watt 2016-21) who gave them a tour of Queens’ College. Natasha is a recent graduate from the college and gained a first-class honours degree in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic. She is now embarking on an MPhil focusing on Hereward the Wake.
Some of us were proudly sporting our Blue Sky Bursaries badges as our appeal gains momentum. The caffè sospeso message of paying one cup of coffee forward at a time is one we can all follow and, to make a very real difference, everyone is welcome to join!
