Inaugural Devonshire Society Ladies Lunch

The inaugural Devonshire Society Ladies Lunch took place at The Star in Alfriston and the ladies who attended were delighted not only by the venue but by the menu, too, which was truly delicious. As a last-minute, very welcome surprise the sun shone and we were able to have drinks in the newly-opened Walled Garden before heading up to the Pilgrim's Room for a two-course lunch.

The interior design touches really make The Star such an outstanding venue and everyone loved it. After good conversation over good food, we heard from our speaker, Lai Symes, who is a couture milliner and makes exquisite bespoke and ready-made hats. Lai's business has been going for nearly 24 years and she was able to share many insights into her craft, a truly enlightening way to end our meal.

Lai kindly donated a bespoke hat to our raffle which also included an overnight B&B stay for two at The Star. The sale of tickets made £800 for our Blue Sky Bursaries Appeal, which you can find out more about here.

There were old friends, but new friendships were forged, too. A perfect lunch on a really lovely day.

If you are interested in being added to our Ladies Lunch invite list, do let us know by email. We are hoping to host the next lunch in April 2025.
