Wargrave rowathon for charity

Wargrave House raises over £6,000 for the Sam West Foundation

Over the weekend of 4 and 5 February, Wargrave House completed its annual 24-hour rowathon challenge. Each Wargravian was designated at least two slots of 10-minute rows across the course of the 24 hours, and some College staff joined in too. The boys had their chance to etch their names in history, as the fastest boy in the challenge gets his name on the rowathon plaque, situated rather grandly in the common room.

This year's chosen charity is the Sam West Foundation, an organisation whose mission is to promote awareness, diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues affecting children, young adults and their families. Some of the boys in the Upper Sixth also have a personal connection to the foundation itself.

One of the sixth formers commented: 'Mental health and wellbeing is a very current and ill-treated component with regards to society as a whole. Therefore, we, as Wargrave House, feel obliged to help and support this cause in the hope to help those in need.'

A huge well done to all of the boys, tutors, and staff of Wargrave House, and to everyone else who got involved. Even during the earlier hours of the morning, morale and energy were kept high. A true display of house spirit.

The target the boys set themselves was £6,000 and, by the time their justgiving page closed, donations had reached £6,270.
