From Tea and Sandwiches to Cryptocurrency

What started out as an idea for a gentle discussion over tea and posh sandwiches blossomed into an informed debate, outlining what cryptocurrency is, and weighing up the pros and cons. College debater-in-residence Sesh Govender kicked off the session, outlining the basics, and we were then joined on Teams by College governor James Fok. James has done some work in this area with the current US Securities and Exchange Chair Gary Gensler when Gary was professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The group reflected how the Eastbournian Society brings together a diverse range of people all connected through their shared relationship with the College: current parents, parents of former pupils, current and former staff, OEs and other College friends. With such a range of experiences, the host John Thornley was delighted that what befell the Speaker of the House of Commons later that day was not played out beforehand in the Snowden Room.
