Over-60s Lunch in Glorious Sunshine

We had a wonderful time welcoming some 50 members of the Eastbournian Society to the over-60s lunch on Monday. A heartfelt thank you to Peter Jamieson (Blackwater 1960-63) for hosting this lovely event at the stunning St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club for the tenth year. While introducing the speaker, he focused on how much his daughter had enjoyed College life and how the College, in general, nurtures friendships which last a lifetime. He was, he added, delighted, after last year’s lunch, to be sent a prefect tie from the current College headmaster Tom Lawson who was the guest speaker. It was, Peter added wryly, almost acceptable as a reward for the College’s not having appointed him to the role in the 1960s.

It was a real delight to continue with the theme of OE girls and College friendships with this year's speaker. We warmly welcomed Suzy Parsons (Nugent 1974–76) who entertained us with amusing tales of how she secured her place at the College, and anecdotes about some of the key figures around at the time. She touched on what life was like in Hampstead as the daughter of famous actors, and passed on some key suggestions for life which she had learnt from her schooldays and from her father Nicholas Parsons.

We were again fortunate to enjoy a very sunny day; a rarity at the moment.

There was lots of laughter, and good food and wine. So, as this is an annual event, there’s no excuse to stay away if you’ll be over 60 next May.

Stay tuned for next year's date.
