Joe came to the College as a Peter Bibby Award holder, which supported his time at the school through bursary funding. The award is given to a talented local cricketer who might otherwise not be able to attend the school. It was set up by Peter's family, friends and sporting colleagues in his memory and to honour and celebrate his commitment for developing local young cricketers.
We are delighted that Joe, who was in Craig 2014-19, has graduated from the University of Leeds with a BA in Economics and Politics (2:1). As well as his academic achievements, Joe also continued to enjoy his cricket, including the victorious varsity fixture which took place in June this year for the University of Leeds Men's Cricket Club.
He told us: 'Graduating recently has made me think how increasingly grateful I am for the opportunity to have attended Eastbourne College on the Peter Bibby Bursary. The environment at the College really pushed me to excel in all areas of my education and not just my cricket. I think it’s fair to say that without my time there, I wouldn’t be able to call myself a Russell Group graduate. I can’t thank those who donated to the bursary enough, I will always be grateful for their generosity, the College was the perfect place for me to broaden my horizons.'
The major fundraising event for the Peter Bibby Award is the annual Foundation Golf Day, and you can see a report and some photos from the day here and watch highlights in the video below.
We are grateful to all those who contribute to bursary funds and help support many pupils who might otherwise not be able to have a College education. If you would like to find out more about how you could help, please contact Emma Garrett at ecbgarrett@eastbourne-college.co.uk.
